LA LOCOMOTORA NEGRA
A locomotive that doesn’t stop
Formed in 1971, Locomotora Negra is a classic jazz band in Catalonia. With perfect interpretations of the most festive and popular black jazz standards, Pedralbes will become a small New Orleans with Catalan accent.
With classic swing orchestras like Duke Ellington’s as referents, what was initially a reduced quintet has been growing over the years to become a Big Band that has been joining new talent over the years. Led by the historical trumpet of Ricard Gili, a member of the original line-up, today they are 17 musicians, with trumpets, bass, trombone, sax, drums, guitar and piano.
Their show will be a celebration of more than 45 years of career in which they have produced 17 albums; but also it will be a tribute to those hundreds of unforgettable jazz nights that have made them win the status of legends, since they played for the first time in 1971 in La Cova del Drac in Barcelona.
In their career, they have brought the old sounds of dixieland, swing and natural and easy-hearing jazz to a new audience. In Pedralbes, there’s a good chance for their lifelong fans to meet them again, but also an opportunity for a new audience to discover the pure, classic sound of these true pioneers.
