Rolando Villazón is a regular guest on the world’s leading opera and concert stages. Over the past decade, he has expanded his activities and, in addition to his performing career, is successful as a stage director, novelist, and TV and radio presenter. In 2019, he began his tenure as Artistic Director of the Mozartwoche Festival in Salzburg. The 18/19 season sees Rolando Villazón fully embracing his uniquely diverse career. He can be heard in Munich, Paris, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, at the Zurich Opera, the Staatsoper Dresden, the Staatsoper Berlin, Aix-en-Provence, and Bamberg, amongst others. He makes his debut at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and in Buenos Aires in recital with Daniel Barenboim, and appears in concerts with the Filarmonica Joven de Colombia conducted by Andres Orozco-Estrada. To round off the season, Rolando Villazón makes his directorial debut with the Staatsoper Dresden with a new production of Rameau’s Platée.
The recipient of numerous international prizes and awards, Rolando Villazón is an exclusive recording artist with Deutsche Grammophon and an ambassador for Rolex. He was born in Mexico City and currently resides in Paris.
